CSBJ: Growth Continues at Banning Lewis Ranch Covington Homes Talks about Responding to the Market
While Colorado Springs waits for the 29th consecutive year to see what will happen next in the saga of Banning Lewis Ranch, the area surrounding the 20,000-acre parcel owned by Nor’wood Development Group is hopping with homebuilding activity.
“Things have definitely improved at Banning as a result of the overall market improving,” said HBA member Grace Covington. Covington Homes is one of three homebuilders currently working in the current Banning Lewis Ranch development, which is spearheaded by regional developer and HBA member Oakwood Homes. Amy Van Dyken Receives Standing Ovation at Peak Vista’s 13th Annual Breakfast of Champions®

Van Dyken was featured as Keynote Speaker and shared her story, which began at age six when Van Dyken took up swimming to help her in a battle against asthma. Van Dyken could not swim the full length of an Olympic-size pool until age twelve, but she persisted and conquered every challenge. Banning Lewis Ranch 2017 Summer Concerts
Summer 2017 Banning Lewis Ranch is back with their Summer Concert Series! Every other Thursday throughout the summer BLR will be hosting a free concert. Be sure to check them out for a fun summer evening in beautiful BLR.
U.S. Olympic Museum
Colorado Springs really is Olympic City USA. In addition to the Olympic Training Center and the home of the Olympic Training Committee, the Springs will also be home to the United States Olympic Museum.
The Olympic Museum will be located just blocks from the Olympic Training Center. Set to open in 2018, the Museum will be a global destination. Within the 60,000 square-foot building, the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame will be featured, a cafe, a state-of-the-art theater, gift shop, 20,000 square feet of interactive exhibit space, and broadcast studio.

Millennials Moving to the Suburbs?
Millennials are always a big topic when it comes to trends. They are normally thought of the generation that live in urban areas or lives at home with their parents. However, Zillow recently posted an article with surprising research indicating Millennials are moving to the suburbs due to high rent costs in urban areas. Another surpassing trend, is they are actually driving the housing market. Half of all home buyers are under the age of 36.
One of the main reasons why Millennials are willing to move out to the suburbs are the amenities these new communities are offering; most of them have community gyms, pools, and recreation centers. Rent in urban areas is increasing rapidly. By moving out the suburbs they are able to afford a bigger, nicer place than they would in urban areas.

2017 Southern Colorado St. Jude Dream Home Builder
We are SO excited to announce that we are the St. Jude Dream Home Builder for Southern Colorado again!!! Being part of the Dream Home has been such an incredible experience and we are so thankful that we have been selected again. We also want to thank our awesome trade partners and donors that made this possible and to everyone that purchased a ticket for the last one. We were able to raise OVER $800,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!!
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of their founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.
Unlike any other hospital, the majority of St. Jude funding comes from individual contributions. And thanks to generous donors, families never receive a bill from St. Jude. Founder and entertainer Danny Thomas opened the doors to St. Jude in 1962 with the dream that “no child should die in the dawn of life.”

2016 St. Jude Dream Home Winner
The Colorado Springs 2016 St. Jude Dream Home has come to an end – and it couldn’t have ended any better. On June 10th, KKTV11 drew the winner live on television! The winner, Trina Atencio, of Pueblo, Colorado was overjoyed at the sight of her new home.
Trina recently married, Leo, whose daughter was treated at St. Jude almost 30 years ago and is now cancer free. Every year they buy a ticket to the St. Jude Dream Home because of that. They hadn’t even seen the house prior to winning it. We met up with them at the Dream Home on June 10th to show them their new home! It was such a great night filled with laughter, tears of happiness, and love.
Don Ward from KKTV11 sat down with Trina and Leo after winning to talk about it. In addition to the home, many other great prizes were given out that night.
